The talent, experience and mentorship of Bob and his team is legendary; we’re stoked to be able to grow, learn and work with them! "As a creative artist, Cinematography and Editing are the one’s you really want, and for this piece to be nominated in both of the categories was incredible,” said Joel Edwards, co-founder and director of production for Evolve Digital Cinema | IMG. “For the team at Evolve to actually win one of those, especially with so many other talented people and amazing work in those categories, is truly honoring and humbling. Evolve’s Award Winning Work: Behind The Scenes

The Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography

Breaking the Silence - Trailer here: https://vimeo.com/35612877

Shot by Joel & Jesse Edwards, Bill Roach, Mike Bove, Josh Edwards. Produced by Kory Kozak. Executive Producers: Victor Vitarelli & Valerie Gordon.

Shot over six weeks from the streets of Dallas to the hills of Norway, the piece begins with a nightmare sequence envisioned by Monika herself. Supporting images were built via a studio art department, and extras were cast to depict Monika’s own fears. The opening sequence creates a powerful beginning to a story with an equally powerful message. The story then transitions to the safe and peaceful fjords of Norway, where Monika grew up and trained.

The TV feature was shot on a AbelCine (www.abelcine.com) high speed Phantom V65 package and Sony F3 Digital Cinema cameras, complimented by Angenieux zoom primes, Zeiss primes and Canon 5D Mk 3 cameras with Canon L Cine Mod lenses.

"At that time, the Phantom cameras were still being modded for remote field use. They were much more studio friendly, so remote fjords in Norway presented some real challenges,” added Jesse Edwards, co-founder of Evolve. “Mike Nichols at AbelCine was key to the shoot and worked closely with us to help put together numerous solutions, like the Phantom PCU control system and several remote power options."

Kessler (www.kesslercrane.com) mo-con system was used for several of the shots in this feature to yield highly elaborate motion control moves. Multiple scenes incorporated specific movement photography utilizing Kessler camera Jib arms, dolly sliders and Steadicam. Finally, an elaborate mix of point-of-view, van to subject filming, statics and handheld shots were incorporated to add perspective.

Joel and Jesse Edwards also edited the piece with Final Cut Pro 7, Adobe After Effects, mocha Pro Red Giant Magic Bullet Suite and Davinci Resolve.

The Emmy Award for Outstanding Journalism - Beitar Jerusalem

Produced by Beein Gim, Shot by Joel & Josh Edwards, Bill Roach, Edited by Tim Horgan

Executive Producers: Andy Tennant, Michael Baltierria, Ben Houser

Arguably the most converted Emmy Award of the evening - Outstanding Journalism - went to E: 60’s Beitar Jerusalem, a short feature that dives into Jerusalem to report on those who have been called “the most dangerous fans” in Israeli soccer. Racism, politics and sports all collide in
this amazing journalism TV story. The Evolve team traveled to Jerusalem for principle photography back in September of 2012, and the piece aired later that Fall. The piece was edited
by Tim Horgan and Bluefoot Entertainment (www.bluefoot.tv), and was produced and written by the E:60 Team; Beein Gim, Producer, Jeremy Schaap, Reporter / Writer and Executive / Sr. Producers Andy Tennant, Michael Baltierria, Ben Houser.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Evolve Digital Cinema | IMG Wins 2011 Emmy Award for

Outstanding Promotional Announcements

Creative Team at Evolve Digital Cinema | IMG Recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for their Work with The National Geographic Channel.

Chicago, IL (October 24, 2012) – Evolve Digital Cinema | IMG (www.evolveimg.com), a boutique creative production company, announced today it has won a coveted 2011 Emmy Award in the category of Oustanding Promotional Announcement: Institutional. Evolve Digital Cinema | IMG was recognized for their work with the National Geographic Channel and their campaign to create a new look to promote Nat Geo’s Explorers initiative and institution.

Winners of the 33rd Annual News and Documentary Emmy® Awards were announced on October 1, 2012 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), and the awards were presented at a ceremony in New York City earlier this month.

“The entire team at Evolve is humbled and honored with this Emmy Award,” said Joel Edwards, co-founder and director of production for Evolve Digital Cinema | IMG. “This project with Nat Geo has personally been one of my favorite I’ve worked on in my entire career. It was such an intense and engaging project. We were charged to create something fresh, something that people had not seen before - and to use that as a platform to tell new stories about a new wave of world explorers. We had an amazing team and talented creative group that worked tirelessly to pull this off. Being recognized with an Emmy is the ultimate gratification! We are also so grateful to the executive and creative management team at Nat Geo for their support and faith in our abilities. It is truly an honor to work with them!”

The Emmy-winning campaign can be viewed here:

The Challenge and the Award-Winning Result

In early 2011, the Nat Geo Channel approached Evolve Digital Cinema | IMG about creating a new campaign for the network that would give whole new look and feel to the Explorers initiative and institution. Nat Geo was looking for a fresh vision in this new campaign, visually and viscerally, through the explorers’ message and stories as they were told.

Carla Daeninckx, Nat Geo co-producer & design director added, “Executive management challenged us to elevate the Nat Geo brand by showcasing the innovative thinkers and scientists of today who are redefining exploration by living the mission and making the world a better place. These young, smart, relatable talents are not actors, but real people who transcend all cultural boundaries to show how we can all be ‘everyday Explorers.’”

With an aggressive five-week schedule from pre-production to air, tight budgets, a race to coordinate talent, crews, and timeline, the tireless efforts have paid off with a highly successful, critically acclaimed result. “Our goal here was to visually keep the pacing of the spot up and energy high, while being light and selective on how we punctuated and identified highs and lows. The fresh approach we took on design stemmed from our core channels new on-air look, and taking it to another level. Finally, we felt it important to introduce the legacy of our Explorers and Society, creating a timeline linking our past to our future. What makes Nat Geo different from any other TV network is its connection to The National Geographic Society and its mission to explore. This was clearly the statement this brand defining campaign delivered on, and we’re so proud to have been a part of it.”
